Cochrane Renal Group
The Cochrane Renal Group was established on 1st March
1997 with its editorial base in Lyon in France. In May 2000 the editorial
base was relocated to Sydney, Australia where it is housed within the Centre
for Kidney Research at the Children's Hospital at Westmead.
Our scope
The Cochrane Renal Group's scope covers the following major areas of kidney disease.
- Acute kidney failure
- Chronic kidney disease (pre-dialysis)
- Diabetic kidney disease
- End-stage kidney disease
- General nephrology
- Haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis
- Kidney transplantation
- Urinary tract infection
- Urology
Our responsibilities
The responsibilities of the Review Group are to:
- Identify all trials concerning kidney diseases
- Assess the trials for relevance and quality
- Assemble and analyse the trial data
- Prepare structured reports for inclusion in the Cochrane Database of
Systematic Reviews
The main role of the editorial base is:
- to support reviewers through the review process.
- the Coordinator is responsible for assembling an edited module of systematic
reviews prepared by the reviewers as well as information about the group
(scope, trial search strategy, members etc). This information is then
disseminated through the Cochrane Library on CD-ROM and the Internet.
This use of electronic media allows reviews to be regularly updated as
new evidence becomes available.
Role of the Editorial Base
Other roles of the Editorial team are:
- Organise peer and consumer referees
- Identify all trials concerning kidney diseases and create a specialised
registry of renal trials
- Coordinate handsearching of journals not cited in the electronic databases
